Pioneering (Else) Course Format: Else Pioneering is an initiative activity session where students are taught a number of knots and lashings that allow their group to solve the problem of crossing a low creek by constructing a simple bridge.
Downhill Skiing (Else) Course Format: Else Basic downhill skiing skills are introduced to the students who then have the opportunity to expand on these and explore the introductory areas at Falls Creek ski resort. VCE students may have the opportunity to snowboard.
Cross Country Skiing (Else) Course Format: Else Students are instructed in the basics of cross country skiing which will enable them to use these skills to explore different aspects and areas of the alpine environment. The VCE extension to this activity is a two day ski tour with one overnight snow campout.
Snow Shoeing (Else) Course Format: Else Experiencing the amazing winter alpine environment through a sensory, exploratory and more inclusive nature. Snowshoeing is an immersion-focussed activity for students to get amongst the snow gums, amidst the snow, with little gadgetry and lots of imagination.
Rock Hopping (Else) Course Format: Else Rock hopping involves students following a river gorge up stream by moving from rock to rock,
wading and walking along the river bank. It is done at Bogong in the west branch of the Kiewa
River and in the Rocky Valley Stream. Swimming in water holes and sliding down wet rocks on
route adds to the excitement. Students wear helmets and suitable footwear. It is conducted in

Bushwalking & Hiking (Else) Course Format: Else Hikes are normally conducted on the Bogong High Plains. Students hike in groups of about 12, accompanied by BOEC staff and one of their teachers and can visit a number of historic cattlemans huts en route. Hikes are preceded by a hike preparation session. In this session the students discuss the hike and are given information, equipment and food required for a safe and enjoyable experience.
Mountain Biking (Else) Course Format: Else Mountain Bike touring is conducted either on the Bogong High Plains using existing trails or on the network of trails around Bogong and Mt Beauty. It provides the opportunity for students to enjoy the spectacular scenery and environment of the high country.
High Ropes (Else) Course Format: Else BOEC has a well developed, exciting and challenging High Ropes Course constructed in a forest setting adjacent to the Centre. There are two sets of four elements, two stand alone elements (Dangle Duo, Trapeze or Pamper pole) and a Flying Fox (i.e.11 elements in total).
Canoeing (Else) Course Format: Else Canoeing is conducted on Lake Guy, which adjoins the Centre. The students are introduced to basic methods of flat water canoeing to enable them to explore the lake environs.
