Youth Group Courses (Else) Course Format: Else We organise a number of courses during the year for groups from the Youth and Community sector, allowing a wide range of individuals to benefit from the use of Plas Gwynant. These courses run in a similar fashion to our school courses, although we can change the structure if necessary. Groups still participate in the same type of activities as you will have seen elsewhere in this site - please ...
Teachers Courses (Else) Course Format: Else Teachers who bring their pupils to Plas Gwynant often like the opportunity to come to the centre without 40 students and the responsibility that entails. As such we have developed a number of teachers courses, where a few like minded people from a given school come to Plas Gwynant for a weekend (or longer in the holidays) to have a go at some more activities, or the same activities but pe...
Corporate team-building (Else) Course Format: Else Outdoor activities have increasingly become a medium that is popular for corporate development and team-building courses. By putting teams of people in an unfamiliar and challenging environment, it becomes easier to understand concepts of group dynamics and the way that both individuals and groups of people can learn and develop. Combine this with the fun element of the activities at Plas Gwyna...
National Governing Body Qualifications (Else) Course Format: Else Most outdoor activities are now governed by NGBs (National Governing Bodies), all of which have their own qualifications structure to demonstrate competence in that particular activity. At Plas Gwynant we can organise a variety of NGB qualifications courses during the year, including the following:
British Canoe Union (BCU) 1, 2 and 3 star awards
Mountain Leader Training Board (MLTB) Sum...
Family courses (Else) Course Format: Else At Plas Gwynant we understand that it can be difficult for a whole family to go away and have a go at activities that are the right balance for each family member. Consequently we have developed family courses that do just that. Families are able to come and use the resources available at the centre, and try out activities with qualified staff at a level appropriate for everyone.
These cours...
Adult courses (Else) Course Format: Else We run a number of adult courses throughout the year, which are usually organised by groups of friends who want to try their hand at some outdoor activities. Plas Gwynant provides a base for them to stay, excellent instruction and equipment during the day, and all meals are included. Most adult courses run over weekends, although we can organise them at other times when requested.
These cour...
Post-16 courses (Else) Course Format: Else For those students who have finished year 11 and perhaps done their GCSEs, there is still the opportunity to come to Plas on one of our Post-16 courses. These are very flexible courses in terms of duration and activities, and much is decided depending on whether students have been to Plas before, and on what the objectives for a given course are. Staff and/or students should contact the centre ...
Secondary School Adventure Courses (Else) Course Format: Else Our Adventure Courses are the flagship of the Plas Gwynant activity year. Aimed at years 9 and 10, they run from Monday to the Friday of the following week, giving students 10 continuous days of activity, with an overnight expedition during the second week. Few, if any, other centres in the British Isles are able to offer courses of this duration as part of the secondary curriculum,...
Secondary 7 day course (Else) Course Format: Else These courses, usually aimed at years 8 to 11, run from a Friday to Friday, thus giving students a weeks residential experience. As with most Plas Gwynant courses, we do not operate a specific programme of activities, instead working towards the needs of each particular group in conjunction with the prevailing weather conditions. As such any two groups on the same course might enjoy a ver...
Primary school courses (Else) Course Format: Else Courses that we organise for primary schools usually run from Monday to Friday, effectively with 3 full days of activity, and either one or two half days on the Monday and Friday. The centre is equipped to provide these courses to pupils in years 5 and 6. Courses tend to be very much an introduction to outdoor activities, with a mix of canoeing, abseiling, hillwalking, orienteering and some bea...
